Nose reshaping is performed to reduce or increase the size, change the angle, remove a hump, narrow the span of the nostrils or even reshape the tip or bridge of a nose. The reasons for rhinoplasty surgery range from injury such as a broken nose (deviated septum), deformities from birth, changes due to aging (nose that droops), breathing problems…or simply not liking the nose you were born with. Regardless of your reason(s), Dr. Bloom is highly skilled, as a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and performs these delicate nose surgeries to achieve the most functional and natural looking results possible.
• Rhinoplasty is a delicate surgery requiring great skill & expertise
• It can alter the size, shape & angle of a nose
• Nose surgery is done to correct/improve appearance & function
• Dr. Bloom often corrects damage from previous surgery or injury
• Rhinoplasty corrects age related changes to a younger appearance
• Nose surgery creates the nose you’ve always wanted but never had
• Rhinoplasty requires skill & artistic ability to achieve each individuals unique needs … without altering ethnic characteristics
Dr. Bloom knows that noses are unique to each individual and that “one nose” does not fit all. So he is especially skilled in helping you understand the intricacies of nose surgeries and what is best for you.
A good candidate for rhinoplasty surgery is concerned about any or all of the things listed in the “benefits” paragraph above. Every candidate should have mature expectations (realistic) and ideally be 15 years of age and older to ensure that growth and development is completed.
Based upon your individual needs, Dr. Bloom will perform either an “external” or “endonasal” approach to the nose. The incisions for an open procedure are made on the inside of the nose and a small incision is placed under the nose between the nostrils. “External” rhinoplasty is reserved for more complex cases. “Endonasal” rhinoplasty involves incisions inside the nose only. After sedation, Dr. Bloom makes the appropriate incisions and works through them to remove excess tissue, reshape cartilage and bone and change the shape and size of the nose.
When you wake up, you can expect some discomfort including swelling and bruising. You will need to do the following: 1. Stay in bed the first day after surgery
2. Keep your head elevated on 2-3 pillows
3. Your nose may be packed (Dr. Bloom will decide this)
4. Discomfort is easily managed with oral medication
5. Dr. Blooms’ patients typically return to work/school within 1 week after surgery
6. Strenuous activities are restricted (sports included) for about 3 weeks
7. You must avoid lifting, bending, stooping and straining – until completely healed
Dr. Bloom’s philosophy is to provide each patient with a specialized treatment plan based on his or her individual needs, stressing a natural, refreshed and rejuvenated look. Dr. Bloom then uses his training and knowledge of the both time tested and cutting-edge procedures to provide his patients with safe, reliable and long lasting treatments.
Nose reshaping is one of today’s most complex surgeries. Yearly over 1.5 million men, women & children of all ages & ethnicities undergo rhinoplasty for both cosmetic & functional reasons.
Dr. Bloom will discuss this with you during your consultation. Often local anesthesia and sedation are used and sometimes general anesthesia is needed for rhinoplasty surgery.
If you have a strong desire and need to correct nasal problems due to injury, disease, aging, or simply want to change the size, shape and angle of your nose for cosmetic reasons, and you are in otherwise good health, you could be an ideal candidate for Dr. Bloom’s rhinoplasty surgery.
Dr. Bloom’s skill and expertise enable him to minimize the surgery time frame, but times will vary based upon the complexity of your procedure. Simple procedures may take as little as 1 hour…more complex surgeries often require 3 or 4 hours.
YES. All incisions result in scarring, but when the endonasal technique is used, all incisions are placed inside the nose and are inconspicuous. The external technique requires one tiny incision above the upper lip right under the nose. This scar is very tiny and fades over time.
There is mild discomfort and the feeling of a “stuffy nose”, but this goes away quickly over a few days.
Rarely does Dr. Bloom have dissatisfied patients, but should it occur, he is specially trained in corrective surgeries. He can perform a “revision” rhinoplasty as he has done for many patients who have suffered with poor results at the hands of unskilled physicians.
Cosmetic surgeries are rarely covered by insurance, but financing is available for those. (Ask about it in our business office) If your surgery is medically necessary, it is usually covered. You must check with your personal insurance provider to determine this.
