LUTRONIC DERMAV® LASER
Dr. Bernstein is the first physician in Pennsylvania to get the DermaV laser and is involved in pivotal studies, investigating its use for a variety of conditions. The Lutronic DermaV® laser is a very versatile solid-state potassium-titanyl-phosphate (KTP) laser that emits green light to target and removed unwanted blood vessels and pigmentation while rejuvenating photodamaged skin. The Lutronic DermaV® laser is able to accomplish this because hemoglobin in our blood vessels absorbs green light, as does melanin pigment. The DermaV® emits a wavelength that is strongly absorbed by melanin, but also protects the surface of the skin using a spray cooling device, which is highly efficient at protecting the skin. In addition, the Lutronic DermaV® laser emits 3 types of pulses. What this means for our patients is that we can treat a large variety of vascular conditions as well as photoaging. The DermaV® almost always treats facial redness and photoaging with no bruising.

DermaV® FAQ
What type of laser is the DermaV®?
The DermaV® laser is a solid-state laser that uses 2 crystals to created green laser light. The first crystal is a neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) crystal that creates infrared energy that is then converted to green light by a KTP crystal. The energy is delivered in pulses long enough to target unwanted blood vessels and to stimulate skin remodeling, but not long enough to hurt the skin.
Does the DermaV® laser hurt?
The vast majority of patients tolerate the DermaV® laser quite well without numbing cream. It’s mildly uncomfortable, but some patients want numbing cream to decrease the laser sensation.
What will I look like after DermaV® treatment?
One of the unique features of the DermaV® laser is that treatment of facial redness/rosacea or photodamage doesn’t result in bruising. People still experience swelling and some pinkness following treatment as with other lasers.
What’s different about the DermaV®?
There are a few things that set the DermaV® laser apart from other vascular lasers. It emits green laser light and utilizes cryogen spray cooling to protect the surface of the skin. In addition, the DermaV® can emit many types of pulses from a single pulse to pulses composed of many ‘pulselets’, all with the touch of a button.
