Revlite ® SI Laser
Dr. Bernstein had the SECOND Revlite® SI laser in the WORLD. The Revlite® SI laser is a nanosecond-domain, Q-switched laser for removing tattoos and pigmentation. This means that the Revlite® SI emits a very short pulse that is 5-10 billionths of a second in duration. The advantage of such a short pulse is that it can remove very small particles like tattoo ink granules or freckle and lentigo pigmentation (brown spots). Dr. Bernstein and his colleagues published a seminal peer-reviewed manuscript evaluating the Revlite® SI laser for tattoo removal. One of the unique features of the Revlite® SI laser is the ‘Max On’ setting that enables creating the largest spot size possible for any energy that is selected. This is important for tattoo removal because large spot sizes allow adequate penetration of laser energy, thus protecting the surface of the skin as compared to smaller spot sizes. Another advantage of the Revlite® SI, even as compared to many picosecond lasers, is that it can deliver very high laser energies, or fluences. The maximum fluence that this laser can deliver with the 1064 nm wavelength is 12 J/cm², which is a lot of fluence.

What do you use the Revlite® SI laser for mostly in your practice?
I mostly use the Revlite® SI laser for treating black tattoos in all skin types. Having multiple lasers that can remove black tattoo ink means that in a given patient, I can find the device that works best in each individual to remove the tattoos in the shortest amount of time, and with the least side effects.
What colors of light does the Revlite® SI laser emit?
The Revlite® SI laser emits invisible, infrared (‘red’ light that we can’t see) 1,064 nm energy and 532 nm green light via a KTP frequency doubling crystal that cuts the wavelength of the 1,064 nm laser energy in half to 532 nm.
